This month’s Recipe Redux is about our favorite kitchen gadgets – just in case you need any last minute gift ideas! I have so many kitchen gadgets and small appliances. Many I use all the time and others probably don’t get enough use. I couldn’t narrow it down to just one, so here are my top 4 favorite gadgets that are used quite frequently in my kitchen:
1. These measuring spoons are by far my favorite for measuring out spices and such! They were a stocking stuffer from my dad a few years ago. They are magnetic so they stick to one another and nestle very nicely. They range from 1/4 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon. Besides being magnetic, my other favorite feature is the 2 different shapes on either end of the spoon so that the spoon fits in just about any size container or opening. They certainly come in handy when I’m measuring out ingredients for my:
Cinnamon Raisin Sunflower Bread
Happy Hummingbird Muffins
Honey Whole Wheat Sandwich Buns
Pumpkin Cranberry Muffins
2. No kitchen should be without a good thermometer. This was another gift from my dad a few Christmas’ ago. This has been my favorite food thermometer I’ve owned – very simple to use, accurate and can be used in all types of food. It certainly comes in handy when I’m making:
Grilled Flank Steak with Grilled Corn and Peach Salsa
Lemongrass Pork
3. My immersion blender is another tool that I use often and love. It is great for soups, sauces and smoothies. Here are some of my favorite recipes I use with my immersion blender:
Smoothie Base
Creamy Creamless Asparagus Soup
Roasted Pumpkin, Squash and Apple Soup
4. Last but not least is my slow cooker, which I often use several times a week. For my birthday, I got a smaller slow cooker so now I have a 3.5 quart and a 6 quart. I’m excited to have two so that I can do more things with them. Both are programmable which is an absolute must feature for me. Some of my favorite slow cooker recipes:
Fish in the Slow Cooker
Pumpkin Pie Steel Cut Oats
Chicken Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo
